Reload this page in case your computer has it cached as I over write pictures frequently (I change the days date to the current one whenever I edit the page or add new pictures). I am moving all the one gallons into the cold frame where it is easier to water them. Those roses dated 2013 are being repotted into 2 gallon pots with the price doubled once they flower (I can always shave the root ball so it fits the large priority mail box). Click on the picture and it will open a larger image that you can study more closely or save as wallpaper.
www.floweringshrubfarm.com/checkup.htm I am trying to set up the checkup page so its easy to see whats for sale.

The last couple of months I have been taking cuttings from stock plants on drip line (above left) and sending them to the greenhouse. You can see where I have made a note in red like (greenhouse, 2015) as to when I took cuttings on my avirtual rose list at; www.floweringshrubfarm.com/avirtual.htm Remember that if there is no price tag on the side of the pot then its not for sale (people keep on asking to buy plants that I have to keep as a source of cuttings).

As I move the roses into the coldframe I turn the pots so you can see what year they were planted (remember 2014 will be for sale in 2016 after they have flowered). Once they are two years old, have flowered and been identified I will stick a price on the side of the pot near the year, printing the variety name with a paint pen. If there is a name there already it may not be acurate unless marked with a big "OK".

These pictures show each rose bush that we use as a source of cuttings and if they have been cut back you may assume that we have taken cuttings recently. There are actually four paralell drip lines so there are other roses in the back that are hard to make out. Click the picture for a larger image where you can read an abreviation of the variety name printed on the side of the pot and check out the date the picture was taken in the lower right hand corner.

I took cuttings from Anais Segales sometime in late August mixed with others but did not note it on my avirtual page. September 26 I sent a box of cuttings to greenhouse; one bag was 'Ispahan' damask and the other was mostly 'La Belle Sultane' but had a few cuttings from 'Leda', mixed in.

I continue to cut back roses in one gallon pots at this point but have stopped fertilizing as of the end of July. Many assorted friends have asked to pick apples and they are doing so as of the tenth. The expanded metal of the closest table has a patina of rust making this picture more colorful.

We germinate seed from roses every year in the hopes of producing something I can name after Mom and Dad. I have taken additional fruit from 'Schneekopf' and 'Prairie Princess' to stick in a couple weeks. I will label them as Schneekopf seedlings and Prairie Princess seedlings.

Whats flowering in September? New Dawn out front in a 45 gallon pot and the rugosa rose 'Linda Campbell'. Most others that might have flowered are not because we've taken the flowering wood as cuttings.
septemberharisonsyellowsmall.jpg, september09small.jpg
I pot Harisons yellow in a seven gallon pot on drip line until it gets root bound then repot into a 45 gallon. Many suckers will be produced which we will divide and pot into one gallons (I hope). I have around 7 Harisons in smaller pots that we will repot into 45's soon.
septemberkrasavitsamoskvysmall.jpg, septemberamericanpillarsmall.jpg
We will divide these 'Krasavitsa moskvy' lilacs in half early next spring and repot into 3 gallon on drip line (I can easily double my inventory this way). American Pillar is having cuttings taken as it continues to grow vigorously so maybe we will have a bunch growing in 2016.

Watch for price stickers to appear once they have been identified from the flower and are at least two years old. You see these marked Tuscany in 2 gallon size still wont be for sale until they flower, then I'll add a price sticker. Each year I take rooted cuttings from the previous summer and pot them in one gallon pots with the year potted marked on the side of the pot with a paint pen. When the plant is at least two years old and has been identified from the flower I attach a price sticker to the side of the pot. They are sold fairly quickly after that but if not, they will soon be repotted into a larger pot to be sold for a higher price (a new price sticker attached) or used as a source of more cuttings. I will take a picture showing all rooted cuttings of a single variety together as a cuttings picture. No price sticker? Not for sale yet. Remember, at least two years old (according to the date on the side of the pot) and identified from the flower.)

Our September project at 40 Voorheesville Ave. is on Vacation at the end of September but Dan is still working on structures.
septemberplummersmall.jpg, septemberworkshopsmall.jpg
Curt is working on the workshop where our Table saw etc. will be set against the wall, storage overhead. Tools can be pulled into the center of the garage when being used then pushed back after. The trailer and the chipper are parked in here during winter.

Espalier trained Pears along the driveway at the farm.
septembercollymullensmall.jpg, septemberownrootrosesmall.jpg
This Colly Mullen Hibiscus (Rose of Sharon) is still pretty small but we may take cuttings next year. Hibiscus syriacus has to be grown through the winter in the ground as it is just barely winter hardy otherwise. So once we root cuttings I will onlyb dig them up when they are sold.

I am having problems sending my newsletter to subscribers via email so I am providing a link at www.floweringshrubfarm.com/garden.htm Send me an email telling me what plants you are interested in and I will try to comment about those varieties with pictures in the newsletter (I can still receive emails and I may replace my computer this winter which would help as well). I can still send short emails from my Kindle but because my dexterity is bad and my hands shake its best if I keep such communication short. Call me at 518-526-9978 or 518-526-9101 between 9 AM to 9 PM daily.
We grow plants to sell at our plant sale. Read my notes on the zone hardiness numbers I use. Do we do mail order? Check my picture-newsletter Want to purchase? email me.
