When you arrive to buy roses I am probably in the barn either potting plants or sticking cuttings. I am taking 8 to 12 cuttings every day from June first until mid september and recording what I have done in the disease resistant rose catalog. (2013, 4) This note shows I took cuttings of a particular variety in 2013 (after I have taken 4 cuttings of a single variety several times over several months the note will indicate a much higher multiple of 4). Later in the year the number will be reduced to those that actually rooted. Next year rooted cuttings that survive the winter will be potted in one gallon pots. Once they flower verifying the variety they will be sold mail order and during the plant sale.

I grow lilacs in squat 3 gallon nursery pots until they flower. While in bloom I place an individually numbered yellow label next to the flower and take a picture (check for pictures of the flower with the numbered label on my LILACBUY page). This customer in Colorado wanted a 'Purple Glory' so I cut it back, reattaching the label near the soil and fertilizing heavily. In late June to July I will line this large flat rate priority package with plastic, fill in around the root with additional soil and cut the stems further back so that I can close and seal the box. I will charge $30 for the lilac + $2.40 tax + $16.85 postage. Compare that to what the UPS store would charge for a lilac that had not been cut back at $75 or more not including my costs.

Been potting Pinxterbloom Azalea plugs into 3 inch and 1 gallon. The 1 gallons will be good for next year while the n3 inchers will be good later in year.
juneplantsalesmall.jpg & junestockplantssmall.jpg
Here next to my office (which is through the red door) I pot plants into 3 inch pots, 1 gallon pots and 3 gallon pots. 2 inch liners ($5), 3 inch pots ($5) and 1 gallon pot sizes (1 year old for $10 or 2 year old for $15) are the ones I most often sell mail order.
10165yorkandlancastersmall.jpg & layeredredmosssmall.jpg
I can slit a one gallon pot down on both sides, insert a recumbent rose cane and fill with soil so the cane is covered with a couple inches. In winter we can surround the pots with with mulch. If a branch roots we can easily cut the pots apart and we have ready made rooted cuttings.

We expect to have around 300 Lowbush blueberries that we make available to our customers at $5 each (and up to 10 can be shipped in a flat rate priority shipping box for $12.35 postage). About half of the 300 will finally end up in 1 gallon pots and sold next year for $10 each (and 1 or 2 can be shipped in a large flat rate priority shipping box for around $15 postage). Other varieties of plants you see here are being potted into 1 gallon

Pinxterbloom are being slowly transplanted into 3 inch and 1 gallon so that customers can still buy them as $5 plugs.
junepoincairesmall.jpg & juneviolettasmall.jpg
I plan my growing around the fact that many plants will have to be shipped so I pot from 2 inch liner or plugs into 1 gallons. Some proportion of the 1 gallons will then be repotted next year into squat 3 gallon pots and placed in the field. When those in the field flower, if they are consistently the same we might send a single 3 gallon ($30) or two 1 gallons ($10 for anything less than 2 years old) in the largest flat rate priority box ($16.35 postage).
juneznamyaleninasmall.jpg & shippingtwoinchlinerssmall.jpg
Two inch liners are sold for $5 each and shipped in the mid size flat rate priority shipping box for $12.35 (up to 10 can be packed in each box).

We expect another 200 Liners of Lowbush blueberry (V. angustifolium) next week maybe by June 8 that we will continue to sell at $5 each as a 2 inch liner. This first 100 is already being asked for 30 here and 70 there.
