We watch for access (a path through the snow) into the upper field where we have lilacs on drip line to cut back and divide. We may pull a trailer into the field using a lawn tractor thats easier to maneuver between rows. The trailer is equipped with a table to work on, pots and bags of potting soil etc.

If there is just one stem we may cut it back so it forms a thicket that might be divided in half at a later time, otherwise we will copy the labeling onto another pot and place half in each one. Sometimes we divide into quarters and pot into one gallons.
