Gallica roses have a known genetic anomally called phyllody (fy-lo-dee) that can be observed as leaflike petals in the flower when springtime is cool and moist. When rose phyllody is caused by genetic or environmental factors the symptom is limited to the blossoms and normal blossoms appear at other times during the season. The lack of stunting or yellowing and the presence of good growth are all indications that disease or viruses are unlikely.
