Belgian Fence

When training we always start by pruning back to just above the bottom wire in early spring (15 to 18 inches above the graft) where there are three good buds at or just below the wire. The resulting branches are trained, two opposing each other in a V attached to bamboo canes that are tied to the wires and a center branch trained straight up to the second wire. If the tree is to be used as belgian fence it will join many others, planted two feet apart, with the center stem removed.
