POTINPOT In spring we move roses from pot in pot or cold box to drip line. In fall they go the other way (7 gallons to pot in pot and smaller roses to cold box).
April pot in pot and drip line. Plants in 7 gallon grip lip pots go from pot in pot to drip line and back. Roses and Lilacs in one gallon pots go from the cold box to drip line and back.

Roses used as a source of cuttings are potted in 7 gallon pots and stored in winter pot-in-pot, their pots surrounded with mulch to keep their roots from freezing as if they were planted in the ground. In summer we move all the roses both 7 gallon and smaller out into the field under drip line where they can get lots of sunlight and yet are still easy to water (as smaller plants flower we identify them, label them, place price stickers on, and maybe sell them). Each emmitter when dripping provides a half gallon of water per hour.

In areas where the pot-in-pot beds are in more sun expanded metal tops are placed on top of the socker pots so they can be used as tables.
